Animal Cell Biotechnology Lab (ACBLab) was set up in 1993 based on Endocrine Biotechnology lab, whose precursor was Endocrine group, founded by Associate Professor Doctor Do Khac Hieu. From 2002 up to now, ACB lab has been managed by Associate Professor Doctor Le Quang Huan. Our lab has a pool of talented researchers with 1 Associate professor, 2 Doctors, 6 Masters, 11 Bachelors, have been actively engaged in many national projects following three main directions.

Making monoclonal antibodies specific to human cancer antigens and pathogens by using hybridoma and genetic engineering such as ELISA, Real-time PCR and Phage Display Technology is one of our interests. We construct recombinant genes encoding single chain fragment variation (scFv) antibody, express obtained recombinant genes in appropriate expression systems and collect pure antibodies by purification. To produce KITs for qualification of specific target molecular associated with different disorders we use "Phage Display Technology" to make a chicken antibody fragment library exclusive to human cancer antigens, then, we obtain expected phage antibody fragments. One of the "light points" in our research is the construction of method which has the combination of sensitivity of Real-time PCR, specificity of Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and phage display technology for quantification of protein antigens mediated antibody-DNA complex. This method enables us not only to determine the appearance of antigen in patient's serum but also to identify the level of them, there fore, putting forward appropriate diagnostics and increasing in treatment effectiveness.
Another aspect of our study emphasizes the use of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) analysis in forensic DNA typing. It is used with high degraded samples or low-copy number materials found from shed hair or bones exposing to severe environmental conditions. Because the D-loop is the most variable region in mitochondrial genome and the most polymorphic nucleotide sites within this D-loop are concentrated on two "hypervariable segments", HVS-I and HVS-II, we analyses the D-loop region to identify remains of unidentified soldiers in Vietnam War. This project has high morals and social signification.

Many years ago we were actively engaged in producing medicine, derived from domestic animal and plant, for drug addict. At present, the evidence from animal model and volunteer prove the effectiveness of our medicines. In the near future, we will continue to complete the trials of our drug before applying in large scale.

In term of education, we have successfully trained 4 PhD students, 8 Master student and 25 Students. For a period of over 7 years from 2002 to 2009, we have published 3 international papers in reputable journals, 2 papers in International Conference, 17 papers in national journals, 38 papers in national conferences. Associate professor Le Quang Huan is the author and co-author of 4 specific books.
